Author Faith Popcorn made a name for herself by cheerfully forecasting approaching consumer trends in bestselling books like "The Popcorn Report" (1990) and "Clicking" (1998). Among her predictions: the rise of cocooning (stay at home syndrome), cashing out (leaving a high paying corporate job for a more satisfying existence) and the decency decade. (The 90's).

Popcorn's company, BrainReserve, provides consulting services for some of the biggest names in business - helping companies like Eastman Kodak, Procter & Gamble and American Express understand the global marketplace.

Her specialty is zingy, one-line prophecies. (Think Jerry Brown and Shirley MacLaine having a conversation at a party in the 60's). She calls 'em right much of the time, but sometimes the trajectory of her logic is, shall we say, a bit fuddled.

Try this sample on for size:

"A quest for knowledge will take over and be strengthened in places like Brain Gyms, where we will exercise our thinking and Brain Clubs, where we will play mind games..."
