Ready to launch - Flycode
Known as Apple Soup until Apple computer started making threatening noises, this P2P startup hopes to make its mark by somehow coming up with a way to deliver secure content to Net surfers.
Founded by Napster emeritus Bill Bales, flycode has yet to launch, although a functional service is expected sooner rather than later.
While the Napster association has generated considerable publicity for the company, Flycode remains another dot com business model in search an audience - an audience that in the end may or may not be receptive to what they have to sell.
Stiff competition from free alternatives may hobble flycode at the starting gate. A strategic partnership with Digital Rights Management company Reciprocal has investors interested. But will surfers respond with the same enthusiasm?
Expect many deals and announcements.
