Verisign
Looking for a company with a virtual (no pun intended) monopoly on a market critical to the development of E-Commerce?

Verisign is probably that company.

Verisign creates certificates verifying that web site transactions are secure. Given consumer concern about fraud on the Net, a Verisign certificate can be the assurance a customer needs to make a purchase.

Certificates are inexpensive (considering the potential damage customer concerns about fraud could cause) and quickly implemented.

There are several competitors in this field as well as rumors of phoney certification sites that criminals have set up as part of elaborate scams. (The same thing sometimes happens with web site awards.)

You're better off going with a name surfers recognize and trust.
